Special Education Help on Oahu — Your Child’s Rights Are the Same Statewide

If you are on Oahu and your child is not receiving the special education services they are entitled to under federal law, you have the same rights as every family in Hawaii — and the same access to experienced legal support. We have been honored to serve Oahu families for many years.

How We Work With Oahu Families

Consultations happen by phone or video — you do not need to travel to get started. We travel to Oahu for hearings and in-person meetings when needed. Distance has never been a reason for a Hawaii family to go without representation, and it will not be for yours.

What Oahu Families Often Ask Us About

Oahu families come to us with a wide range of situations — from IEP meetings where they felt their input was not genuinely considered, to services that were listed in the IEP but not delivered consistently, to requests for private placement that were declined. We also hear frequently from families who were told their child does not qualify for special education and want to understand whether that determination was correct. Every situation is different, and we will give you an honest assessment of yours.

Your Rights Under IDEA on Oahu

Federal law applies equally on every island in Hawaii. Your child is entitled to:

  • A free appropriate public education designed for their individual needs.
  • An IEP developed with your meaningful participation as an equal member of the team.
  • Related services — speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, transportation — when needed.
  • Placement in the least restrictive environment appropriate to your child’s needs.
  • Due process rights if any of the above are not provided.

Attorney Fees

Under IDEA’s fee-shifting provision, if we prevail in your case the Hawaii DOE pays our attorney fees. No retainer. No hourly bills for our legal work. The consultation is always free.

We Would Be Glad to Talk With You

Free consultation. Honest assessment of your situation. No obligation. We serve all islands with aloha.
